PUFF -- an easy to use but cheap and powerful S-Parameter Microwave CAD Program

PUFF was developed by the Caltech University in America during DOS times, but now it is also running under Windows 7 without problems. It is easy to use and gives excellent results. It now comes on a CD including all necessary files, a pdf copy of the original handbook, a lot of additional information and software -- and a brand new tutorial with more than 100 pages (= a project collection for beginners and users with experience). A collection of S parameter files downloaded during many years from the Web and during the daily work (appr. 350 MegaByte) is also added.

The CD can be obtained from UKW-Berichte or from VHF Communications.

Windows 7 stopped the use of all DOS programs but the story starts again with the CD -- and PUFF is now running perfectly as never before. To participate in this joy you have two possibilities:

a) You are a PUFF owner for a long time and the software can be found in your workshop after one hour of searching. Or you like to manage everything by yourself and you refuse to buy the CD. In this case download the zipped software from this homepage (the link will follow in the download list).

Then
1) Copy all Puff files into a new PUFF folder on your hard disk.
2) Download the two programs "dosbox.exe" and "dosshell.exe" and install them on your PC. They are a part of the "zipped software: PUFF21 for Windows7" in the following download list.
3) Download and print out the installation guide, the tutorial and the catalogue of the keystrokes
4) Use the installation guide to get the "DOS machine" running correctly.
5) Start PUFF and work through the tutorial (..have fun with it and its 100 pages of projects)
6) And if You like print out the original PUFF handbook and other information in the folders on the CD (or below in the download list)

b) If You prefer an easier life then buy the "PUFF for Windows7" - CD from UKW-Berichte or VHF Communications.

In this case the huge S-parameter collection is a part of the CD.

The Tutorial is completely newly written and the translation now finished. At this moment

the tutorial status in the download list is: Version 1.1 from June 17th, 2013 / 121 pages, now chapter 10 about oscillator design and measured S parameters of the INA03184 amplifier (of chapter 5) added
