MOSAIC II Version 1.24.

21/09/98

MOSAIC II transmits audio tones from the PC speaker for transmission via an
SSB transmitter. It generates human-readable text in the frequency domain,
and is read with the help of a spectrograph program.

These transmissions, called Sequential Multi Tone Hellschreiber, or S/MT-Hell
are extremely immune to manmade and atmospheric noise and interference. MOSAIC II
is ideally suited for transmission on the lower HF bands, such as 80 and 40m.
MOSAIC II transmissions are, with the correct settings, completely compatible
with all other known Amateur MT-Hell systems.

This version has a 7 x 5 dot matrix for fastest text. If you prefer, Version 1.22
is similar identical, but has a 7 x 7 matrix, which is slower but clearer.
Both versions are easily read on other software such as EVM MT-Hell by G3PLX
and MTHELL by G3PPT. An "array factor" parameter has been added, which allows
wider, taller and fatter text to be generated by sending each column more than
once. Use with discretion however, since it slows down transmission, and increases
bandwidth, and may affect readability on windowed software such as EVM MT-Hell.
Good results have been achieved using an Array Factor of 2 to work with EVM MT-Hell.

This version is a development of 123.EXE, and includes new functions. CTRL U and CTRL D
are used to increment and decrement the current pixel rate by 5 pixels/sec. This is
useful as a means of identifying the best settings for clearest reception. The pixel
rate returns to the default (config file) value when a new menu item is selcted.

F9 now provides a "QRZ de ZL1XYZ" message, by sending QRZ followed by the F6 callsign
message. F10, which was present but undocumented in previous versions, provides a
10 second tuneup sequence of all seven tones.

The transmit buffer has been enhanced and now shows two rows of text, which makes editing
errors rather easier. F7 and F8 become the MEMO function. When F7 is pressed,
transmission is suspended while a line of text is entered into a memory. Up to 80
characters are acceptable - and full editing is possible. When the line of text
is correct, press ENTER and this message will be stored. It is sent (just like F2, F3 or F4)
every time F8 is pressed.

Unzip the archive into a suitable directory and adapt 123.CFG to suit your callsign.
I don't suggest messing with the menu items until you are familiar with the various
modes I have set up - which provide slightly too fast, normal and slightly too slow
text in both normal and x2 sizes. You must have 123.CFG and 123.EXE in the same
directory. This file (123.TXT) is optional and its removal will not affect operation.

Full instructions for receiving equipment and general use of both Version 122 and
Version 123 are to be found in the file MOSAIC2.TXT.

Enjoy yourself - and I hope to SEE you in Hell!
